Kwara Central: IEDPU distances self from fake publications on Saliu Mustapha
POLITICS DIGEST- A socio-political group and umbrella body of sons and daughters of Ilorin Emirate worldwide, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) had dissociated itself from an apparently fake publication on the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Saliu Mustapha.
An online medium, KwaraDaily.com widely suspected to be funded by one of the top co-contestants for the senatorial ticket, had reported that Mustapha, who is also the Turaki of Ilorin was on the watchlist of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged dollar racketeering.
In the said publication, an unanamed chieftain of the IEDPU was quoted as lending credence to the publication.
However, the IEDPU, had come out to dissociate itself from the said publication, describing it as ‘spurious’ and ‘fictitious’.
In a statement by the Union signed by its National President, Alhaji Aliyu Otta-Usman, the IEDPU advised politicians to stop dragging its name into politics as it was for all.
The attention of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU),the umbrella sociocultural organisation of the good people of Asa, Ilorin East,Ilorin South,Ilorin West and Moro Local Government Areas of Kwara State, has been drawn to an online publication titled “Saliu Mustapha, Others on watchlist as EFCC probes prominent politicians”, where a fictitious leader of the Union was quoted to have questioned the wealth of Turaki of Ilorin, Mallam Saliu Mustapha.

Initially, we had wanted to ignore the piece and move on as we are preparing for the 57th national conference of the Union holding between 25th and 26th December, 2022. But we felt we would not be helping the cause of justice and fair play if we say nothing on the trending issue particularly when the name of the Union was brought into it.
The Union, therefore, wishes to declare unequivocally that it did not authorise any of its leaders or members to make such a comment on the Turaki of Ilorin,Mallam Saliu Mustapha or anyone and would never do so because doing so is not within its purview.
To us, the piece-in-question is an uncanny attempt to create disharmony between the Union and the Turaki of Ilorin who has extended his philanthropic gestures to the Union in several ways in the last few years.
We also see it as an unpardonable attempt to drag the good name and reputation of the Union into politics as we are making it abundantly clear that the Union is not only a nonpolitical organisation but also a purely sociocultural outfit whose interest is the development of Ilorin Emirate and its people.
It is,therefore, important to warn those who are dragging the name of the Union into politics to desist from the unpatriotic act. The interest of the Union as far as partisan politics is concerned is the encouragement of well meaning and interested indigenes of the Emirate to go into it with a view to facilitating the development of the Emirate and its people.
IEDPU is neither for any politician nor any political party. IEDPU does not hate any of those who play politics but would continue to remain a nonpolitical body for and of all indigenes of Ilorin Emirate at home and elsewhere.
