MAAUN to fly flag at half-mast in honor of late Musa Ya’u, Maryam Abacha’s CSO
Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria is to fly its flag at half-mast for 7 days beginning from Friday in honor of late Alhaji Musa Ya’u, the Chief Security Officer of the former First Lady, Hajia Maryam Sani Abacha.
Alhaji Musa Ya’u who died in Abuja on Wednesday, 15th May, 2024, following a brief illness, was buried at the Gidan Dawa cemetery, Katsina after the funeral prayer.
The Founder and President of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, announced the decision on Thursday when he led a delegation to Katsina State, where he attended the funeral prayer of the deceased.
Condoling the deceased’s family, Prof. Gwarzo described the death of Alhaji Musa Ya’u as a great loss to MAAUN in view of his immense contribution to the university right from its inception in Maradi, Niger Republic.

“On behalf of MAAUN Group of universities and Management, I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire family members of the deceased,” he said.
He directed the management of MAAUN to name a street in the university to immortalise the late Alhaji Musa Ya’u in addition to flying the university’s flag at half-mast for his contribution to the development of the university.
He also instructed the university management to open a condolence register for those wishing to extend their condolences to the university.
Prof. Gwarzo also instructed the university management to establish a foundation in his honor where philanthropic services will be rendered to the society.
Prof. Gwarzo noted that the demise of late Musa Ya’u has left a significant vacuum that is difficult to be filled. He described late Musa as a committed and hard-working security officer.
The deceased left behind an aged mother, one wife and eight children.
