Magodo: IGP Reportedly Withdraws Policemen from Controversial Scene

Following the intervention of the Lagos State Government, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, has reportedly ordered the Police officers at Magodo GRA Phase 2, in Shangisha, Lagos Mainland, to lift the siege on the community.
The development followed the escalation of events on Tuesday, as policemen who had previously laid siege to the estate for about two weeks ignored the order of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to vacate the estate.
The officers reportedly insisted that they were acting on orders of the IGP and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN.
Recall that Magodo residents had previously staged a protest over the presence of policemen in the estate.

In a video that surfaced online, a livid Sanwo-Olu ordered the Police leader to call the Inspector General of Police that he was in front of him.
However, the leader of the Police team also refused, saying that he is too ‘small’ to call the Inspector General of Police; adding that the Governor is in the right position to call him.
The leader of the Police team also refused the Governor’s question on the number of policemen on assignment in the estate, saying it’s not in his place to reveal security information.
An angry Governor Sanwo-Olu later spoke with the IGP who reportedly asked the officer, Chief Superintendent of Police to apologise.
Sources said that the Police boss promised that the matter will be resolved soon and had asked the Police officers to lift the siege and
wait for further instructions.
