Maiduguri Floods: A Memo to Borno State Governor, His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum
Despite early warnings, Borno State Secretary to the Government (SSG), Alhaji Bukar Tijani, and his committee assured the public that the Alau Dam posed no threat to Maiduguri. However, on September 10, 2024, the dam overflowed, resulting in catastrophic flooding that displaced over a million people and caused extensive damage throughout the city.

In light of this preventable disaster, I call for the immediate resignation of Bukar Tijani and all committee members responsible for this failure.
If they do not step down voluntarily, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum must take decisive action and relieve them of their duties. Accountability is non-negotiable—those who failed to act on the warnings from experts must face the consequences.
