2023: Mammoth Crowd Troop Out To Welcome Tinubu In Owerri
POLITICS DIGEST – Chieftains and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State on Thursday, trooped out en mass to receive the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Owerri, the state capital.
Tinubu is visiting Owerri to speak to an audience of private sector drivers, comprising investors, manufacturers, traders among others, preparatory to his main campaign in the State in the coming days.
Though, the town hall meeting was restricted to the drivers of the above sectors in the Southeast, party members in the state trooped out in their thousands just to catch a glimpse of their presidential candidate.
Though Tinubu was yet to touch down at Owerri as of the time of filing this report, the presence of the supporters, our correspondent observed, caused heavy traffic gridlock along the Protea Road.

Despite the explanation by the leadership of the APC in the State that they would see Tinubu next week when he returns for campaign, the excited party members remained adamant, forcing the party leaders and the State Government to make emergency arrangements to keep them under canopies.
Cheerful party leaders and members, who gathered as early as 8.00 a.m., sang and danced along the Protea Road and in front of Landmark Events Centre where the town hall meeting was scheduled to take place.
Imo APC publicity secretary, Cajethan Duke, described the large crowd as a demonstration of enthusiasm by party members, saying their coming out was to show solidarity.
“Asiwaju’s visit is not for rally as you know. It is meant for captains of industries, manufacturers and traders in Southeast and party’s candidates for various positions for the event.
“The party members you are seeing here are only showing solidarity in the project and I can assure you that they don’t mind the scorching sun as long as it has to do with Tinubu and APC,” he said.
