More Firepower is Needed to Deal with Terrorists in Southeast – Fani-Kayode
By Kabir Akintayo
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has condemned the ongoing killings in the southeast, saying government must deal decisively with bad elements terrorising the people.
Speaking on an AIT live programme monitored by PoliticsDigest, the former minister noted that terrorism is no longer limited to the north but also now in the south, especially the southeast.
He said: “There are not just terrorists in the north, they are also in the southeast now. They target policemen and also killing their own people. When you talk about such people, I believe we should have a firm hand against such people. I believe we need to do something about it, arm or security agencies, support them to fight such people. What i don’t believe is for us to turn our gun to one another and blame one another.

“I’m somebody that believes very much in using iron hand on those that seek to stabilize the state or kill people in the name of ethnicity, religion or anything like that.
“People tend to look at my past criticism, from the prism of ethnicity and religion. It’s not so, where I believe the government got it wrong, I said so clearly, where I believe the other way round, I said so also and I have no apologies for that or whatsoever.”
The former minister further urged people to embrace peace and promote national unity, saying Nigeria is the only country we have.
He continued: “If we don’t have Nigeria, there won’t be any political party, there won’t be anyone vying for offices in 2023 because we are all dead or have become refugees.
“The most important thing I believe is not just to criticize for the sake of criticizing but acknowledge where the government gets it right.
“Where I believe we need violence is when it comes to dealing with people outside the country who have come to our land, sponsored and encouraged by foreign powers, to destabilize and cause us to fall into a civil war, to start killing one another. You know we need to be sensitive enough I believe that is what is going on here.”
