Nigerian Media Deserves Commendation, not Condemnation – Shettima

Former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima, has said the Nigerian media deserves commendation for the way they manage the volume of information they receive everyday to ensure that only the ones that are good for public consumption are published.

He made the statement on Wednesday at the 21st Century Chronicle Roundtable with the theme: “Going For Broke: Fighting Insecurity In Nigeria,” held at the Shehu Yar’adua Centre in Abuja.
The lawmaker, who was the chairman of the occasion, said media owners and editors in Nigeria are doing their best to support the government and the security services in restoring peace in troubled parts of the country, through the rigorous and thorough editing of the materials that get to them.
Shettima, however, called for the regulation of social media in Nigeria to stem the tide of fake news.
