A group named Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) has endorsed the choice of President Bola Tinubu in the 10th National Assembly leadership race.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) had micro-zoned the position of Senate President to the South-south and adopted Akpabio to lead the 10th National Assembly.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Jibrin Barau, was also chosen for the office of Deputy Senate President.
The group, in statement issued on Monday, by the Chairman, Isaac Abrak, appealed to other Senators-elect to consider the unity of Nigeria in balancing the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket that brought in Tinubu and his deputy, Senator Kashim Shettima, to office
The group argued that that any attempt to elect another Muslim could create tension in the country.
The statement read in part:
“In the spirit of fostering unity and embracing religious pluralism, we endorse President Tinubu’s support of Senator Godwin Akpabio and Senator Barau Jibrin as suitable candidates for the esteemed position of Senate President and Vice President respectively.
