Officially I am back to work!!
By Saleh Shehu Ashaka
As we navigate through life, we often find ourselves aspiring to be like the sun—radiating warmth, energy, and positivity across vast landscapes.
However, there are moments when we may feel as though we cannot meet this grand standard due to personal struggles, health battles, or even the weight of the world around us.
Today, as I return to work after a prolonged journey of recovery, I am reminded that while I may not possess the ability to illuminate the entire earth, I can still embody the spirit of a lamb, lighting up my own street.
This metaphor reflects an important lesson: greatness is not solely measured by the scale of our influence but also by the impact we make in our immediate surroundings.
Just like the sun shines brightly, its light touches every corner of the earth. Yet, beneath its radiant glow lies the understanding that even the smallest sources of light have their significance.
A single candle can brighten a dark room; a small act of kindness can uplift a weary soul.
After overcoming challenges that threatened my well-being, returning to work feels like a rebirth—a chance to contribute positively to my community.
In my reflection, I made a promise to God: if I cannot be the sun, I will choose to be the lamb, embracing the power of small actions to create change.
This promise is not just personal; it serves as a reminder that each of us has the capacity to affect those close to us, even if we cannot reach the wider world all at once.
In today’s fast-paced, often overwhelming society, we can become fixated on global issues and large-scale achievements, which can lead to feelings of insignificance.

However, numerous studies emphasize the importance of micro-impact—small, intentional actions that may seem trivial but can lead to significant changes in our communities.
According to a 2020 study published in the *Journal of Positive Psychology*, engaging in acts of kindness not only benefits the recipient but also has profound effects on the giver, enhancing their well-being and sense of purpose.
This is where we find hope. Every time we offer a smile to a stranger, lend a helping hand, or simply listen to someone in need, we are lighting up our streets.
These seemingly small gestures can ripple outward, inspiring others to do the same. The power of community should not be underestimated; it thrives on connections forged through shared experiences, empathy, and mutual support.
As I step back into the workforce, I carry with me the lessons learned from my health journey.
I plan to be a source of encouragement for my colleagues, to share stories of resilience, and to create a culture where kindness is valued above all else.
This journey isn’t just about individual recovery—it’s about building a community where everyone feels seen and valued.
To those who might feel overwhelmed or incapable of making a difference, remember that you too can be a lamb—a beacon of light for someone in need.
Whether it’s through mentorship, volunteering, or simply reaching out to someone who may be struggling, we can collectively foster an environment of warmth and support.
Returning to work marks not just a personal milestone but an opportunity to embody the very essence of what it means to be a source of light, however small it may feel. Together, we can create ripples of positivity that extend far beyond our immediate surroundings.
As we embrace our roles as lamps rather than suns, let us shine brightly in our little corners of the world, lighting up our streets with compassion, hope, and solidarity.
In this way, we not only honor our journeys but also uplift those around us, fostering a brighter tomorrow for all.
