Senator asks PDP to Pick Candidate from Ondo South
POLITICS DIGEST- Ahead of the October governorship election in Ondo State, the senator representing the Ondo South Senatorial District, Nicholas Tofowomo, on Tuesday urged the Peoples Democratic Party to pick its candidate from his district.
No fewer than 10 members of the party have signified interest in contesting the party primaries.
They include the PDP governorship candidate in the last governorship election, Mr Eyitayo Jegede; the party’s National Vice Chairman (South West), Dr Eddy Olafeso; Senator Boluwaji Kunlere; a former Commissioner for Environment, Mr Sola Ebiseni; and a former council chairman, Mr Banji Okunomo, among others.
Tofowomo, in a statement by his media aide, Mr Olumide Akinrinlola, said picking its standard bearer from the south was the PDPs surest way of ensuring the defeat of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming election.

He was quoted as saying, “My message has always been very clear. My position has always remained that the governorship ticket of the party should be zoned to Ondo South. Our leaders should come together and make a meaningful decision by zoning the governorship ticket of the party to Ondo South without delay.
“More so, the present governor is from the northern senatorial district; but as soon as he finishes his four years, with common sense, the governorship ticket of the party should go to the south, because the central senatorial district spent eight years during former governor Olusegun Mimiko’s era.
“So, the leadership of the PDP should not play games, they should be very formidable and upright. I’m speaking for Ondo South now; we are very ready for the governorship election and we will deliver a good result for the party if the candidate is featured from the district.”
He added that the six local governments in Ondo South were ready to give the PDP their votes. He declared that if the party zoned its governorship ticket to the south, the PDP would form the next government in Ondo State.
On the number of aspirants vying for the party’s ticket, the federal lawmaker said, “It is a good sign when about 15 people come out from to show interest in the governorship seat and most of them are from Ondo South. It is indeed a clear indication that Ondo South is ready to produce the next governor of the state.”
