Ondo 2024: I’m A Polygamist, I Can Marry From Any Tribe – Olusola Oke

One of the leading governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olusola Oke, has replied critics over his choice of marrying an Ibo woman, saying “he is a polygamist”, and at such, can marry from any tribe.
Oke also revealed that his first wife is a Yoruba woman, who is also qualified to run for the governor in Ondo state.
Addressing a press conference Friday after he submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms at the APC national secretariat, Oke said his opponents did not have anything to disqualify him from the race, but the issue of marrying an Ibo woman which he said is never a crime.

He said, “In a contest like this, I don’t expect everybody to be my supporters. Those peddling this negative story are oppositions. They must find something. In Ondo state today, there is a huge population of Ibo APC, members. In Nigeria, it is unconstitutional to discriminate against anyone on the ground of marriage or tribe.
“I am polygamous, we are talking about competent, development of a state, they are talking about being married to an Ibo. But the truth of the matter is that, I married a Yoruba woman who is from Ilaje. By May 2024, our marriage will clock 41 years. She has a Ph.D and she has served the state for 35 years even in her right she can contest for governorship,” Oke said.
On whether President Bola Tinubu has endorsed any of the aspirants, Oke said, “Our president is a democrat. He does not indulge in anointing anybody. I am very close to him and I can tell you that he wants a free and fair primary election. The President wants to give everybody equal opportunity.”
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) also that his administration will tackle poverty in the state through agriculture.
“What was a major economic platform of the South West in the past was agriculture. Each time I try to know what is responsible for the level of poverty we have in our state, I discover that it is because we have abandoned the mainstream of our economy which is agriculture,” he said.
