Open Letter to Tinubu: Let the Poor Breathe On Subsidy

Dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,
I write to you today with deep concern for the deteriorating state of our beloved nation, Nigeria. The spiraling crisis affecting every aspect of our society, from security to hunger and economic paralysis, calls for urgent and decisive action.
As an aspiring leader, you have the power to make a difference, to let the poor breathe and to bring back genuine subsidy for petrol. It is crucial that we learn from the examples set by developed countries, who are subsidizing various sectors of their economies to avert disasters that have already begun to manifest in our own nation.
It is undeniable that poor administration and the lack of realistic economic solutions have exacerbated our challenges. The closure of all borders with Niger Republic, under the premise of an ECOWAS sanction on the military junta, has resulted in dire consequences.
Northern Nigerian businessmen, who conducted business worth 13 billion naira weekly, find themselves stranded with over 2,000 containers of goods in Niger Republic. This closure has not only crippled economic activities but has also contributed to the surge in insecurity, abject poverty, and hunger.

The absence of a genuine subsidy regime for petrol has taken a toll on the common Nigerian citizen.
