PDP Convention: 811 Delegates to Decide Atiku, Wike, Obi, Others’ Presidential Fate
POLITICS DIGEST- Barring any last-minute change, it is now certain that 811 delegates will decide the fate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirants at its national convention slated for May 28 and 29.
The 811 delegates of the party consist of one national delegate elected from each of the 774 local government areas and one special delegate per state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from among persons living with disabilities, Daily Trust reports.
This was based on refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to assent the new Electoral Act which altered Section 84 sub-section 8, which National Assembly amended to include statutory delegates among the participants at congresses and conventions of political parties.

The PDP had earlier following the development announced that only elected delegates would participate in the nomination of the party’s candidates for all elective positions at the general elections in line with the Electoral Act, 2022.
Already, different aspirants have been traversing the country in attempt to woo delegates to vote for them.
The party had cleared former vice president, Atiku Abubakar; former Senate Presidents, Bukola Saraki and Pius Anyim; former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; Bauchi and Sokoto State Governors, Bala Mohammed and Aminu Tambuwal to contest the party’s presidential ticket.
Others were; River State Governor, Nyesom Wike; former banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen; pharmacist, Sam Ohabunwa, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, among others.
It is obvious that there are 15 aspirants scheming to emerge the standard flag bearer of the PDP but the race is being narrowed to four.
The four frontline aspirants, however, include former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi and the Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
