Peter Obi is Flavour of Nigeria Current Chants, But.. By Ejike E OKPA
POLITICS DIGEST – With all due respect, now FLAVOR of Nigeria political figures for 2023 presidential election Peter Obi has garnered enviable following as the apparent good given the BAD and the UGLY.
Obi enjoys the attention which most politicians would love. In Nigeria where chant is taken as vote of confidence, Obi is looking to be president but lacks presidential quality. Anyone can be president but very few can actually be presidential.
Obi was Anambra GOVERNOR for 8 years and ran the state as his petty cash operation. While there are marginal evidence of good deeds Obi was dismal when it comes to effective policies that still exist or used by subsequent governments. His handpicked successor Willie Obiano was a disaster and now Gov Soludo is groping trying to make sense of what he inherited.

Anambra is made up of 177 autonomous communities occupying roughly less than 1,600 square miles. Typically – no town has about 10 square miles. The multitude of communities makes governance very difficult especially as every town claims to be ancient Kingdom headed by local chieftains whose claim to fame is how loud they dress in their peacock-like attires. They are hardly sources of legislation but rather drag on government because they are a group that ambush GOVERNORS in order to extort them.
Were Obi a transformative governor since he was very high-handed how he governed, he should have organized the communities into say 10 municipal centers to enable critical pooling of resources for robust economic development.
Instead Obi enjoyed the discord that Anambra communities have against each other since conflicts enabled Obi to exploit the situation as he wished.
On ratio of IGR versus federal allocations during Obi, Anambra was not ahead of the other Igbo states.
Obi faked building of a refinery – by commissioning one which President Jonathan attended.
Keep chewing.
