Recent Power Shortage Not Deliberate – KEDCO
POLITICS DIGEST – The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has justified the current power supply shortage in its franchise areas saying that it was not deliberate, but due to low gas supply in the transmission process.
KEDCO in a statement by its head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai said it has confirmed few days ago that the nation’s power supply is experiencing supply shortage as a result of the low gas supply.
This according to the Kano DisCo has restrained the ability of many thermal power stations to generate the required energy optimally, as explained by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The statement said: “It is important to clear the air in view of the complaints from customers on low power supply. As we all know, KEDCO does not generate power but depends on what is generated and transmitted to it by the TCN.

“We only distribute and with the clarification from relevant agencies on the state of supply, we deemed it fit to also tell our curious customers in line with our customer-centric policy to ensure that we carry our customers along.
“What is happening is a nationwide issue and not peculiar to KEDCO alone. The TCN has said gas constraint has caused significant reduction in the quantum of power transmitted to the various DisCos for supply to electricity consumers.’’
“In view of this, KEDCO herewith appeals to all our customers to exercise some patience as effort is being put in place by relevant agencies to ensure improvement in the power supply.
“We are committed to improved distribution of power to ensure that our customers get the value for their money. As soon as the capacity is fully restored and issues concerning the shortage in power supply are addressed, we shall not hesitate to ensure that customers get improved supply,’’ the statement added.
The KEDCO management then called on customers to help in protecting installations and report issues of power equipment theft and sabotage, adding that the overall responsibility of ensuring improvement and development of power sector is a collective responsibility of all.
