Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi: A New Dawn For FUDMA
POLITICS DIGEST– Since its establishment in 2012 by President Goodluck Jonathan, Federal University Dutsinma has been in leadership crisis until in early 2021 when Prof. Armaya’u Bichi assumed office as substantive Vice Chancellor.
Even before my appointment into the university as Graduate Assistant in 2020, I have heard much about the leadership tussle in the institution which hindered its development among its peers that were established the same time.
Fortunately, with emergence of Prof. Bichi, the leadership crisis is now history as he strives to bring so much to the institution.
Professor Bichi’s emergence as substantive Vice Chancellor has brought serenity by setting new path for the institution looking at the infrastructural and academic development his administration has recorded in the last few months.
No University that can develop without manpower and infrastructure; the relocation of the university’s most activities to its permanent site from the take off campus is a big development and testimony that Prof. Bichi means business.
In the last few months, to meet the standard of a developed university that can compete with others globally, Bichi was able to recruit more than 1,000 newly appointed staff both academic and non-academic.
Junior and senior staff were both considered, Administrative Assistants, Officers, Graduate Assistants, Assistant Lecturers were all appointed after rigorous and standard process of recruitment based on merit.
Since its establishment, FUDMA has not got any better VC who prioritises staff and students’ welfare so serious like Prof. Bichi. This is largely due to his patriotism and love for the institution.
Bichi is doing everything possible to ensure the commencement of academic activities in the newly established Faculty of Medicine, Engineering and Law.

Professional courses like these in a university like FUDMA will enhance its development and make it so relevant in the field of research and educational development in the country. This, of course will be a plus to Katsina State, Northwest zone and Nigeria at large.
Bichi, a renowned Professor of Fisheries and Aquaculture started his career as a graduate assistant at Bayero University, Kano until in 2010 when he rose to become a Professor.
He transferred his services from BUK to FUDMA in 2012 to contribute his own quota towards the development of the baby university then.
Serving twice as Acting Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Dean of Faculty is a proven testimony to his capacity, commitment and dedication to the development of FUDMA.
He knows the challenges and where the previous leadership stopped, he is now adding his wealth of experience to address the needs of the university as one of its pioneer staff; building bridges and network outside the university with Philanthropists, academic and business mogul across the country.
Example of this is the naming of the university clinic at permanent campus after renowned philanthropist and academician, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo who is a supporter of this great institution of learning.
Gwarzo who is the President and Founder of Maryam Abacha American Universities is a big supporter of FUDMA in both kind and cash; this gesture by Prof. Bichi is an encouragement to him and call on other philanthropists to come in and support the institution.
There is no doubt that Prof. Bichi is a new dawn for FUDMA, may Allah guide, protect and uplift him towards discharging his duties as Vice Chancellor of this university effectively by building a lifetime legacy, worthy of emulation.
