PROFILE: Maryam Shetty, the Kano Princess who will Serve in Tinubu’s Cabinet

Maryam Shettima is famously known for her passion in serving humanity and politics. She is an advocate of good governance and women inclusion in politics.
She is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and part of the party’s presidential campaign council.
Shetty participated actively in the Gawuna/Garo Campaign Council in her home state, where she contributed vigorously in the campaign and on election day.
She has been a frontline campaigner and defender of ex-President Buhari administration. That gave the birth of ‘We Believe,’ a movement saddled with the responsibility of promoting the good works of the Buhari administration.

Born in the ancient city of Kano, Shetty is a granddaughter to late Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero and a niece to the current Emir Aminu Ado Bayero and the Emir of Bichi Nasir Ado Bayero.
She studied physiotherapy at Bayero University, Kano, where she exhibited high leadership qualities. She is also an alumnus of the University of East London.
She worked briefly with Dala Orthopedic and Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospitals in Kano before she went to London to further her education.
She obtained her Masters Degree from the University of East London, Stratford where she majored in sports physiotherapy.
She was on the medical team of the London Olympics where she worked with top-tier athletes including world record holder, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt.
To acknowledge her contribution to APC’s victory in the 2023 elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated her and 18 others as ministers on Wednesday.
She is expected to bring her passion for humanitarian service and pedigree as a goal getter to bear on the cabinet.
