A Reflection on 41 Years of Blessings!!
By Saleh Shehu Ashaka
As I celebrate my 41st birthday today, I find myself immersed in a profound sense of gratitude. This milestone invites me to pause and reflect on the incredible journey I’ve traveled—a journey filled with trials, triumphs, lessons learned, and countless blessings bestowed upon me by Allah. Each year brings with it a tapestry of experiences that shape who I am, and as I stand at this intersection of life, it is only fitting that I take a moment to recognize the divine wisdom that has guided me.
From the very beginning, my faith has served as the foundation of my existence. I was blessed to be born into a family that valued spirituality and instilled in me the teachings of Islam. My parents devoted their lives to nurturing my relationship with Allah, emphasizing the importance of prayer, compassion, and community. Through their example, I learned early on that every achievement is not merely a product of hard work, but rather a manifestation of Allah’s grace.
As I reflect on these foundational lessons, I remember the stories of Prophets who faced tremendous adversity yet persevered through unwavering faith. Their journeys inspire me to acknowledge the challenges I have encountered in my own life. In moments of struggle, it was my faith that provided solace and strength, reminding me that Allah’s plan is often greater than our understanding.
Throughout my life, the power of prayer has been a constant source of comfort and guidance. It is during these quiet moments of reflection that I have experienced profound connections with my Creator. As I knelt in humility, conveying my hopes, fears, and aspirations, I was met with a sense of peace and reassurance. Allah’s response to my prayers has come in various forms—sometimes through the clarity of thought that emerged after seeking guidance, other times through the unexpected blessings that arrived when I least anticipated them.
I am reminded of a particularly challenging time when I questioned my path. As I faced uncertainty surrounding my career, I turned to Allah in earnest supplication, seeking direction. Miraculously, opportunities began to unfold—each one a testament to the power of faith and prayer. I stand here today, cherishing the accomplishments that followed those moments of doubt, knowing that they were divinely orchestrated.
As I reflect on the past 41 years, I am overwhelmed by the multitude of accomplishments that have graced my life. Some of these milestones appeared monumental at the time; others were subtle yet impactful. Each achievement represents not just personal success, but a reflection of Allah’s mercy and support.
I recall my academic journey—each step bolstered by determination and an unwavering belief that knowledge is a gift from Allah. The late-night study sessions, the sacrifices made, and the support from family and friends all contributed to my education. Graduating not only equipped me with skills for my profession but also allowed me to fulfill my duty to serve others. My work has been a source of purpose, and every time I can make a difference in someone’s life, I am reminded that this is an extension of my gratitude to Allah for the opportunities I have been given.
Moreover, I celebrate the relationships that have enriched my life. Friendships forged over years are sacred bonds that are a testament to the beauty of human connection. Each individual I have encountered has contributed to my growth, teaching me lessons of kindness, resilience, and empathy. I recognize that these relationships are blessings from Allah, guiding me through life’s ups and downs.
My journey would not be complete without acknowledging the significance of community. Growing up in an environment that fostered social responsibility, I learned early the value of giving back. Volunteering within my community opened my eyes to the needs of others and ignited a passion for service. Allah’s teachings emphasize charity, compassion, and justice, and embodying these principles has become a source of fulfillment in my life.
A particular instance stands out when I organized a local food drive during a time when many families struggled to put meals on the table. Witnessing the collective effort of individuals coming together for a common cause reminded me of the strength we possess when united in service. In those moments, the impact of our actions becomes a clear reflection of our faith, reinforcing the notion that small acts of kindness can create ripples of change.
While the past 41 years have been marked by numerous blessings, I must also acknowledge the challenges that have shaped me. Life is a dynamic mix of joy and sorrow, and it is through overcoming adversity that we gain strength. Each trial, whether personal or professional, has led me to reevaluate my priorities, reassess my goals, and ultimately emerge more resilient.
In times of hardship, it is Allah’s wisdom that guides me through darkness. I remember facing a significant setback in life …and aspirations, I felt a sense of clarity wash over me. Prayer has been more than just a ritual; it has been a lifeline that anchors me when the storms of life threaten to overwhelm. In those moments, I have realized that the act of supplication is not merely about asking for help; it is also an opportunity to express gratitude for the myriad blessings I often take for granted.
Every day, I am of the simple joys—my health, the warmth of family, the beauty of friendships, and the opportunities that have come my way. These blessings serve as reminders of Allah’s mercy and presence in my life. Each prayer carries with it a heart full of thankfulness and a soul eager to embrace the lessons embedded in every experience.
It is essential to recognize that life isn’t solely composed of joyful moments. The struggles and setbacks I have faced have equally contributed to my growth. Challenges can often feel insurmountable, yet each obstacle has been a teacher, imparting wisdom that comforts the soul and strengthens the spirit.
For instance, there have been times when I grappled with uncertainty regarding my career, relationships, or my path in life. In those moments of doubt, I learned the invaluable lesson of patience—waiting on Allah’s timing, trusting that He knows what is best for me. It is through these experiences that I came to appreciate resilience and the importance of maintaining hope even in the face of adversity.
The teachings of Islam emphasize compassion, kindness, and helping those in need. Being part of a community allows me to practice these values actively. Whether through acts of charity, sharing moments of joy, or offering a listening ear during difficult times, I have found that giving back enriches my life and reflects the beauty of our shared existence.
As I enter this new chapter at 41, I carry with me the wisdom gained from the past while looking forward to the future with hope. There are still dreams I wish to chase, goals that inspire me, and deeper connections to forge. With every passing year, I aim to cultivate gratitude—not just as a fleeting emotion but as a guiding principle in my life.
I want to continue exploring the depths of my faith, finding new ways to serve my community, and becoming a better version of myself. The journey of self-discovery is ongoing, and I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
In closing, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Allah for the blessings of life, love, and lessons learned. As I celebrate this significant birthday, I remind myself of the importance of cherishing each moment and recognizing the intricate web of experiences that have brought me here. May this year be filled with continued growth, abiding faith, and abundant blessings. Ameen.
