Rivers LG Poll: No Election Held in HoR Minority Leader’s Ward 5, Obio/Akpor

POLITICS DIGEST – No elections were conducted in Ward 5 of Obio/Akpor, Rivers State, during the recent local government polls held last Saturday.

A video recorded at Ward 5, the constituency of the House of Representatives Minority Caucus Leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda, revealed deserted polling units and a Collation Centre that appeared abandoned in broad daylight.

This followed a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja, which prohibited the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara from holding the elections on October 5.

Despite the court’s ruling, the state government proceeded with the elections, though voter turnout was reportedly nonexistent, with polling units and wards remaining empty.

In defiance of the ruling, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) declared the Action People’s Party (APP) as the winner, raising questions about the legitimacy of the electoral processes.

The election process has faced widespread criticism, with several credible civil society organizations (CSOs) denouncing it as lacking transparency and credibility.

The People’s Advocate, a coalition of CSOs, described the election as a “weak and not credible charade.”
