While details of his meeting with the President and upcoming meetings in France were not disclosed in the statement, our correspondent gathered that the discussions are not unconnected with the need to find a suitable running mate for the APC candidate to replace the ‘placeholder’ submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Since emerging as the Presidential candidate of the APC on June 8, Tinubu has held meetings with and reconciled with all the other contestants with a view to forming a common front ahead of the general elections scheduled for next year.
Both the candidate and the entire party have however been unable to agree on the right running mate for the former, forcing him to resort to presenting a temporary name to beat INEC’s June 17 deadline.
