Senator Barau Jibril, NASS Members Boycott LG Election In Kano
POLITICS DIGEST- Senator Barau Jibril, representing Kano North Senatorial District has been absent in the just concluded Local Government election in Kano state, investigation by POLITICS DIGEST revealed.
This newspaper also gathered that some House of Representatives members, notably Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada of Kano Municipal constituency and Abdulkadir Jobe, representing Dawakin Tofa/Tofa federal constituency were also absent throughout the election.
The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, KANSIEC has organized the Local Government election across the 44 local councils in the state on Saturday, January 16.
In November, 2020, KANSIEC announced the date of the Local Government polls, giving the political parties that would participate in the election an ample time to prepare for the polls.
However, Senator Barau was not in Kano on the election day despite the two months announcement by the electoral body.
Checks by this newspaper indicated that the senator was in Abuja during the election, situation that casted doubt in the minds of people whether he is in good term with the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje or not.
Senator Barau, who is from the same senatorial district with Ganduje, was not seen alongside the governor when he went to cast his votes at Ganduje town in Dawakin Tofa Local Government during the election.
One of the close associates of the senator, who spoke on condition of anonymity said he is was Abuja while the election is taking place in Kano.

Asked why Barau failed to show up during the election, which received much attention by governor Ganduje, the associate said he did not know the reason why the senator failed to come to Kano during the polls.
“I can’t tell you the reason why senator Barau Jibrin Maliya failed to come to Kano. He was supposed to be here to even monitor the election in his local government, Kabo.
” I didn’t speak with him yesterday, but I thought he would be here with the governor, especially as he is from the same senatorial with Ganduje,” He said.
Meanwhile Sharada and Jobe were either not in Kano, or failed to contribute in the just concluded election in the state.
This might not be unconnected with the fact that the duo are at loggerhead with governor Ganduje.
Recently, a video clip went viral on social media, purportedly showing Sharada lambasting the Ganduje administration, accusing the government has selling public properties.
Also, Jobe, who is representing Tofa/Dawakin Tofa Federal Constituency, is not in good terms with governor Ganduje, who hails from the same constituency.
The was recently heard, saying that the Jobe Jobe is not a good representative as he spent 12 years at House of Representatives without any motion and constituency projects but only sleeping at the chamber.
Also, this newspaper gathered that the crises between the duo and Ganduje is what made him allocate any chairmanship or councillorship seat to them, one of the reason why they boycotted the polls.
POLITICS DIGEST understood that these might be the reasons why the two representatives did not participate in the Local Government polls.
