Several Houses And Farms In Eight LGA Destroyed In Kano
POLITICS DIGEST – The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has revealed that 95 farms and 2,026 houses have been destroyed by flooding in eight local government areas of the state.
The Executive Secretary of the agency Dr Sale Jili stated in Kano, that the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had earlier predicted heavy flooding in 25 local government areas of the state due to expected downpour.
“About 26 people were killed, 2,026 houses destroyed, 95 rice farms washed away while 19 people were injured due to flooding in the state.”
Jili reeled off the affected local government areas to include Bunkure, Minjibir, Tarauni, Doguwa, Rano, Ungogo, Tudun Wada and Tsanyawa.

“We have visited Bunkure, Minjibir, Tarauni and Doguwa to distribute relief materials to the victims as a measure to alleviate their sufferings.
“The items distributed include food, bags of cement, roofing sheets, mats and blankets,” he added.
According to him, lthe agency had deployed personnel to Tudun Wada Local Government Area which was badly affected by the disaster to assess the damage to enable it to develop a comprehensive data.
He said the state government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has set up an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp that can accommodate over 700 people, adding that the camp has been furnished with mattresses and beddings for the victims.
Jili urged residents of the state to report any disaster to their ward heads, he also warned them against dumping refuse on waterways, advising them to clear their drainage to avert flooding.
