Spend Monies Meant for My Birthday Adverts on Poor Masses – Shettima Tells Friends
By Lawan Bukar Maigana
Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on his loved ones not to spend huge millions of Naira on newspaper adverts for his birthday coming up on Saturday.
He called on them to redirect those funds towards the less privileged who are struggling to cope with the impact of fuel subsidy removal, high inflation and insecurity.
In a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, the Vice President apparently suggested to his friends and associates to use the funds they would have spent on expensive newspaper adverts to provide much-needed assistance to the impoverished parts of society by providing meals for underprivileged Nigerians, donating to hospitals to support free medical services for the less fortunate and helping financially disadvantaged students cover the newly increased university fees.

“As we approach the anniversary of my birth on September 2, I am utterly grateful for the warm wishes and kind sentiments that many of you have expressed over the years. Your thoughtfulness has touched my heart and has been a source of immense joy.
“At the same time, I would like to take this opportunity to humbly request that you consider celebrating this occasion in a different way. In the spirit of our nation’s commitment to responsible resource management and responsive governance, I kindly ask you to refrain from placing birthday wishes on newspaper pages or utilizing paid channels to convey your greetings.
“I invite you to join me in channelling our collective efforts towards a nobler cause. Instead of spending resources on such messages, I encourage you to contribute to the betterment of our society by donating to charity organisations in need, or your preference, in our collective pursuit of a humane and functional world,” the statement read in part.
