Still On Ganduje And Sanusi, By Habibu Bawa
POLITICS DIGEST – There is no doubt that last Monday, like many other days on Nigerian cyberspace came with another buzzing issue of the long feud between the erstwhile Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sunusi II and his State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, making the later to displace the former from the much revered Gidan Dabo for many reasons absolutely known.
It’s indisputable that, the immediate past Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, had always been a man who has courted alot controversies even before he ascended the ancient throne as the Emir. Many have at many occasions disagreed with him on political and philosophical views and for always portraying the North like where people live in refuse and eat from the dustbin, he was also at several times dragged to the mud for his marxist stand on polygamy but no one can deny his honesty and integrity at any time.
For instance, even while serving in the corruption ravaged Jonathan’s administration, Sanusi blew the whistle that $20bn was missing from the Federation Account in 18 months from NNPC remittance. What a typical Nigerian could have done is to ask for ‘kickback’ and could be given $2bn to stuck in Babbar Riga and keep shut.
I can remember him at another occasion in 2016 saying, “For instance, when the CBN was selling dollar at N197 and people were buying at N300, if I sit down in my garden and pick up my phone I would have enough people to call in the industry to get $10M at official rate and sell at N300 and make a profit of over N1bn and if I do that four times in a year. For doing nothing I would have earned N4bn”.
Like Captain Winterbottom who was convinced by the integrity and honesty of headstrong Ezeulu, the chief priest of the god Ulu which was worshipped by the six villages of Umuaro in Chinua Achebe’s Arrow of God to speak against his people and decided to make him the paramount ruler of his people anybody with a choice to pick between governor Ganduje and Amir Sanusi will go for Sanusi with straight head.

The executives no more care about the masses and even the legislators whose duty is to represent and defend the interest of the masses by checkmating the expenses and excesses of the executives are most times compromised, the few good are denied victory at courts even if you elected them.
The Monarchs, activists and journalists who are hell bent on rescuing the society for real ‘change’ are subjected to banishment to jail or very remote environments so that the rest will rot in silence.
His recent removal is to make sure that masses lost their voices in totality and while it might be dissapointing as it has attracted more comments than his resignation as United Bank of Africa’s General Manager and his indefinite suspension as Governor of the Apex Bank of the country. Those challenges are clear blessings as after leaving UBA, he became the Executive Director of First Bank and after his suspension, he became emir.
While I believe having a research doctorate degree broadens ones horizon and also commend Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the recent improvement in infrastructure in Kano, it is good he notes that, a bird can’t be denied it’s freedom to move by cutting it’s wing and those who ascend on weaker preys always get bigger vultures descend on them raw, there’s life after power and those who control the system today should be cautious for the system will surely control them tomorrow.
I did not see it coming that what has happened will reduce the power and influence of Sanusi, he may not be emir today but he is the ‘Amir’ of this generation and has been a national figure for decades, presently, there’s no traditional ruler in Nigeria that can match his fame, international recognition and frankness to speak for the oppressed. Despite being younger, he has appeared on many VIP occasions than Abdullahi Ganduje.
Even when Ganduje re-created four new baby emirates in the state, it ended but a desecration of the Mother Emirate that is synonymous to influence, affluence and power in Northern Nigeria and a humiliation to the much revered Dabo clan which held the Kano walls.
Just like you cannot plant a seed and eat it’s fruit without sweat, I implore Amir Sanusi to be more stronger in this trying time and continue to speak for the masses. UNTIL PARTY, REGION AND RELIGION STOP DECIDING FOR US, WE’LL CONTINUE TO WALLOW WITH BLOCKHEADS.
