Sultan Urges Buhari to Declare State of Emergency on Security
POLITICS DIGEST – The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has appealed to the Federal Government to declare state of emergency in the country.
The Sultan of Sokoto and NSCIA President-General, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, made the appeal in a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
In a statement read at the conference, the council said that daily reports of kidnapping, armed robbery, violent attacks on and savage/ritual killings of innocent Nigerians had been a serious cause for concern which must be immediately addressed.
It was reported that the statement was jointly signed by NSCIA officials: Head, Media and Communications, Aselemi Ibrahim; Director of Administration, Alhaji Yusuf Chinedozi Nwoha; and Deputy Secretary-General Prof. Salisu Shehu.

“The situation of Nigeria today is desperate and desperate situations require desperate measures in the collective interest of well-meaning Nigerians,” the NSCIA said in the statement read by Nwoha.
According to the council, the activities of Boko Haram insurgents are completely against the principles and teachings of Islam.
“Let the monster of insecurity be tackled actively and proactively with the full weight of Nigeria’s security and defence capabilities,” the council said.
The council, therefore, reiterated the need for the Federal Government to act decisively by declaring a state of emergency on insecurity.
“The federal government should deploy all the military arsenals at its disposal to arrest the trend for the interest of lives and properties of the citizens.
“We also urge the federal government to review and reinvent its security architecture by injecting more vim into security operations all over the country without delay,” NSCIA said.
