Taraba Central Communities Lament 30-Year Blackout, Seek Help
POLITICS DIGEST – Residents and business owners have lamented being thrown into darkness for more than thirty years due to lack of power supply, in several communities at Taraba Central Senatorial District.
They however, appealed to the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency restore electricity supply to their communities.
PRNigeria reports that the five affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) include Bali, Gassol, Sardauna, Kurmi and Gashaka.
Taraba Central has always been a major factor in determining the winner of the State’s governorship election, owing to its large population density. It is also the region hosting the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Station.
Malam Muhammad Isah, an indigene of Bali LGA, blamed public office holders in the region, especially successive Senators and House of Representatives’ members, for lacking the political will to tackle the power crisis affecting communities in the District.
“We are the only zone in the state that has no electricity power supply.” Isah added.

He said; “In our town where I was born and raised, there is no single pole not to even talk of installing the electricity power at all.”
According to another female, Bahariyya Musa who hailed from Gashaka LGA, the more than three decades blackout has subjected them to untold sufferings, which make life difficult for them to bear.
“Honestly we need urgent intervention in order to end this problem once and for all.” She added.
Aliyu Bello Baffa told PRNigeria reporter that apart from Madaga and Mai-Samari towns, there is no any other community that enjoy electricity power supply in the whole of Sardauna LGA.
“We do not have electricity supply, people in our communities resorted to using generators or solar panels in order to generate power,” added Baffa.
Many residents who spoke to PRNigeria accused politicians in the region of campaigning to restore electricity but ended up abandoning such pledges once they found their way onto the throne.
“We appealed to these politicians to do their utmost best in restoring our electricity, especially when looking at how developed the region could be in terms of socio-economic activities once the problem is tackled.”
