‘Terminally Ill’ IPOB Commander, Nnamdi Kanu, Demands N100bn from FG

The embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who claims to be ‘terminally ill,’ Nnamdi Kanu, has slammed a N100 billion suit against the federal government over his continued detention.
The Appeal Court had in its judgment on October 13 discharged Kanu of the terrorism charges against him and consequently prohibited the federal government from detaining him further or subjecting him to further trial or prosecution in Nigeria.
The government has however appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court and equally filed a motion for a stay of execution of the judgment.

But Kanu is demanding his immediate release from the facility of the Department of State Services (DSS), and payment of the sum of N100 billion as reparation for the alleged gross violation of his Rights to Liberty and Dignity of Human Persons.
In the originating court process filed by his lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), dated October 21, Kanu is seeking unconditional release from custody.
In Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1945/2022, Kanu maintained that his solitary confinement in DSS custody is in flagrant disobedience of the orders as contained in the judgment of the Court of Appeal.
Ozekhome also predicated his objection on the grounds that Kanu had a terminal illness and needed comprehensive medical attention outside the DSS custody.
The senior lawyer asked the court to dismiss the application for a stay of execution filed the federal government.
