EXCLUSIVE: How Sultan Denied Endorsing Obi for 2023 Presidency
POLITICS DIGEST- The Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has denied endorsing the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, a PRNigeria fact-check says.
A claim circulating on social media had reported that Alh. Sa’ad Abubakar III endorsed Obi.
But to verify the claim, PRNigeria checked with other credible sources but there was no such a report.
Further check using search engines revealed that the Sultan also debunked the claim, urging Nigerians to ignore it.

But PRNigeria further reached out to the Sultan’s Chief of Staff, Mallam Bashir Afadaka who confirmed to PRNigeria that the news is fake and neither emanated from Alh. Sa’ad Abubakar III himself, nor the Sultanate.
According to him, “the statement attributed to the Sultan is fake and should not be dignified
“The statement is fake because such an irresponsible write-up, credited to him, could not have emanated from anywhere near or around His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA),” he argued.
After its findings revealed that at no point in time did the Sultan of Sokoto endorse Mr. Obi in the forthcoming 2023 elections, PRNigeria concluded that the claim about Nigerian Muslims’ spiritual leader is FALSE.
