Tinubu Mourns Death of 1st Kano Governor’s Wife

The President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has sent a message of condolence to the people and government of Kano state over the death of Hajiya Ladi Bako, widow of the first governor of the old Kano State (now Kano and Jigawa states), Police Commissioner Audu Bako.
The condolence message was contained in a press statement released by the office of the president-elect on Thursday.
Tinubu described the death of the Bako’s matriarch, who died at 93, as “end of a glorious era”.

“Late Hajiya Ladi Bako’s supportive role helped her husband in no small measure in the giant strides his administration recorded in the old Kano State.
“She was exemplary in spousal support for leaders. Her dignified role shaped the policy of government in key areas of education, health and environment, making the state a pacesetter in many respects.
“The late Hajiya Ladi inspired a lot of women who followed her steps in similar role as first ladies beyond Kano State. She left a motivation that inspired generations of young women and encouraged girl-child education.
“I join family and friends in mourning her loss and pray for Almighty Allah to have mercy on her wonderful soul. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the government and people of the old Kano State (now Kano and Jigawa) as well as those of Kaduna State,” Tinubu stated.
