Former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, alongside some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, were on Tuesday, sited in Mekkah performing the Umrah (Lesser Hajj).
Tinubu, who is seeking the ticket of the ruling party to contest the highest office in the land in 2023, is said to be performing the Ramadan ritual to seek the face of God in actualising his “lifelong ambition.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu will on Tuesday evening host some ruling party bigwigs to a Iftar (breaking of fast) session at the Presidential Villa.
POLITICS DIGEST had earlier reported that the State House sent an invitation to the party’s headquarters and listed the names of the top shots to be invited. Tinubu’s name is number one on the list.
It has also been rumoured that President Buhari who also on Tuesday met with Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state, will anoint a candidate that will succeed him and rally all party men to support such a candidate to get the ticket.
It is however unclear, at the time of filing this report, if Tinubu fly back to Abuja, to honour the President’s invitation.
