Troops Repel Terrorists’ Onslaught In Niger State

Troops have repelled attacks by terrorists suspected to be Boko Haram/ISWAP groups in Sarkin Pawa, the headquarters of Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.
The gunmen who sought to wreck havoc on the soldiers by surprise came in the wee hours of Monday.
According to the spokesperson for the Coalition of Shiroro Associations (COSA), Salis Sabo, who confirmed the attack, the alertness of the security operatives helped to put formidable resistance to the terrorists who came in hundreds trying to dislodge the military base.

He further disclosed that the military officers engaged them in a gun duel which lasted for about 2 hours until reinforcement came, leading to a successful counter-offensive that saw some of the terrorists killed.
Sabo stressed that it took the military backup less than 30 minutes to arrive at Sarkin Pawa from Minna in response to the distress call made by their colleagues on the battlefield.
He praised the soldiers’ braveness and vigour in warding off the terrorists’ attack, assuring that their action has restored hopes in the minds of many.
“The passion with which the security operatives fought off their assailants was unprecedented, the vigour has restored hope in the minds of many”, he said.
