UPDATE: DSS Arrest of Okupe an Error – EFCC
POLITICS DIGEST – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has said the arrest of former presidential spokesman, Doyin Okupe, by the Department of State Services (DSS) was motivated by an alarm it raised in 2018.
The EFCC in a statement on Thursday afternoon by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said the DSS acted on a 2018 watchlist request which it was already planning to vacate.

Operatives of the secret police had earlier on Thursday morning swooped on the Labour Party chieftain at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport while attempting to travel abroad.
He has since been released in an apparent recognition of the error.
EFCC’s statement read in full:
“The Department of State Services, DSS, today, January 12, informed the Commission of the interception of Dr. Doyin Okupe, former presidential adviser, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
“The Service acted on a Watch-list request issued on July 18, 2016, over six years before his recent conviction on money laundering charges by the Federal High Court, Abuja.
“The Commission was in the process of formally lifting the watch-list before his interception and will expedite action in this regard.”
