UPDATE: How Akpabio Defeated Yari to Emerge Senate President

Senator Godswill Akpabio has emerged as President of the 10th Senate.
He defeated his main rival, Senator Abdulazeez Yari, in a keenly-contested election on the floor of the Red Chamber, on Tuesday.
Clerk of the National Assembly, NASS, Sani Tambuwal, who presided over the election, announced that Akpabio, the immediate-past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, scored 63 votes.

On the other hand, Yari, got 46 votes, according to Tambuwal.
Politics Digest earlier reported that there was rowdiness in the upper chamber of the National Assembly when the battle for the leadership of the 10th Senate kicked off.
Senator Ali Ndume from Borno South, nominated Akpabio while Senator Elisha Abbo from Adamawa North nominated Yari.
No sooner than he nominated Yari than some lawmakers started protesting, but Abbo stood his ground while shouting on top of his voice.
He challenged those opposed to Yari’s nomination to go to court.
