UPDATE: I’ve Informed Buhari of my Ambition to Succeed him – Osinbajo Declares to APC Governors

After months of speculation, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally confirmed that he would bid for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to run for President ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Speaking to some APC governors at a special ‘Iftar’ Dinner he hosted at his residence on Sunday night, the Vice President also said having informed his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, of his ambition to succeed him, it was time to mobilise the governors as well.

He reminded them of his capacity and experience having been Vice President for about seven years.
He said he had consulted widely and that he would inform Nigerians as quickly as possible.
According to the schedule of Osinbajo’s declaration seen by POLITICS DIGEST on Sunday night, there will be a press statement from his office on Monday which will be followed by a 10-minute video announcing his presidential ambition to Nigerians.
Some of the governors who attended Sunday night’s meeting included Babajide Sanwo-Olu, (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Nasir El Rufai (Kaduna), Gboyega Oyetola (Osun) and Atiku Bagudu Kebbi)
Responding on behalf of the governors, Bagudu said the ruling party must do everything it takes to retain power at all levels in 2023.
