UPDATE: ‘Palace Coup’ in APC as Niger Governor, Sani Bello, Displaces Buni-led Leadership
By Adnan Mukhtar
There are strong indications that the tenure of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state as acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come to an end.
Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, who is said to have replaced him, is currently holding an emergency meeting with some members of the caretaker committee of the party.
The meeting was convened to implement President Muhammadu Buhari’s reported directive on the removal of Governor Buni.

The secretary of the caretaker committee, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, had described the news of Buni’s sack as fake news.
In a statement, tagged “FAKE NEWS: No Leadership Change in APC CECPC,” the secretary urged members of the party and the general public to disregard the report on Buni’s sack.
But credible sources in the Villa had told our correspondent that President Buhari actually ordered the sack of Buni and the Secretary who issued the above statement.
Earlier on Monday, security operatives took over the National Secretariat of the APC.
Buni took over the leadership of the party in June 2020 following the sack of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (APC).
