The statement said: “His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, is to sign the instrument on cancellation of the recognition of Sir Celestine Omehia as a former governor of Rivers State.
“The cancellation of the recognition is sequel to the resolution of the Rivers State House of Assembly adopted on Thursday, 6th October, 2022 to derecognise Sir Celestine Omehia as a former governor of the State”.
Omehia was sacked by the Supreme Court for Rotimi Amaechi to take over in 2007.
The Rivers governor is reported to be undoing the recognition it gave Omehia in 2015 due to the later’s romance with the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
Wike and four other governors are locked in a battle with Atiku and leadership of the PDP over the continued stay in office of the national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
