We are proud of Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for establishing, naming university after our mother – Muhammad Abacha
POLITICS DIGEST- Muhammad Sani Abacha, the eldest son of late General Sani Abacha, has commended Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for establishing universities in Niger republic and Nigeria and named them after their mother, Maryam Abacha.
Prof. Gwarzo is the Founder and Proprietor of Maryam Abacha American University of Maradi in Niger Republic and Kano, Nigeria.
Abacha, who contested for Kano governorship in 2015, made the remarks while fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to him, the Abacha family are proud of Prof. Gwarzo for the honour done to their mother by naming the university (Maryam Abacha American University of Niger and Kano, Nigeria) after their beloved mother, Maryam Abacha.
“We are proud of Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for establishing the University in Niger Republic and here in Kano which he named after our mother.
“Iam particularly happy and proud of Prof. Gwarzo whom I consider as my younger brother. We don’t have enough words to appreciate him and express our gratitude over this singular gesture,” Abacha said.

He also praised Prof. Gwarzo for his commitment towards promoting education not only in Nigeria but in Africa as a whole.
“Even recently some people from Ghana requested him (Prof. Gwarzo) to establish a similar university in Kumasi, Ghana. This is a thing of joy for people from other countries to request for something like this,” he said.
Abacha further commended Prof. Gwarzo for the initiative because according to him, the northern part of the country is far left behind in terms of Western education.
“There are a lot of students who graduated from MAAUN and are currently working in various places across Nigeria and beyond,” Abacha said.
He noted that the universities would give many youths the opportunity to acquire quality education comparable to Europe which would enable its graduates to compete favourably with other university graduates across the globe.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to continue to give Prof. Gwarzo the courage and strength to do his best in providing students with quality education to enable them contribute to the economic growth and development of the entire African Continent
“We hope to witness the establishment of more universities like 10 to 20 in some few years to come,” he added.
