‘Why Capturing NDE Beneficiaries Is Delayed’
Politics Digest – A member of the Katsina State selection committee of the Federal Government’s 774,000, Special Public works Programme, Very Reverend Nelson Onyekachukwu, has blamed some banks in the state for the delay in capturing the beneficiaries of the programme.
Reverend Onyekachukwu, who is also the Chairman, Katsina State branch of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) told The Nation in Katsina on Sunday that though the capturing process of the beneficiaries were fairly smooth, there were some delays by banks that often complaints about network challenges.

In a related development, the Katsina State Coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Alhaji Yerima Saidu Iya has said states cannot present a realistic estimate of what each had received from the N50 billion allocated for the programme by the Federal Government.
Alhaji Isa said the receipts per state cannot be captured now due to the nature of the programme with regular expenditures being incurred each day.
On the type of equipment the beneficiaries received, he pointed out that the equipment which is owned and supervised by the NDE; include machines for road excavations, wheelbarrows, shovels, cutlasses, sanitation and cleaning materials, and so on.
He said: “We have already deployed the beneficiaries to cover the following works: maintenance of hospitals and school facilities, road excavation, construction of drainage and other ancillary public works.
“One thousand beneficiaries were captured from each of the 34 local government areas of Katsina State through the state selection committee which worked in partnership with selected banks.’’
