Why Peter Obi Shouldn’t Have Rejected Kwankwaso’s Running Mate Offer – NNPP Scribe
By Ozumi Abdul,
Secretary of the Kano State chapter of the New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP, Dr. Hamisu Sadi Ali, has said that the presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, does not possess the political clout Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP presidential candidate, has.
In an exclusive interview with our Politics Digest reporter in Kano, Dr. Sadi Ali, disclosed that the botched ‘merger plan’ between their NNPP and LP, where Obi was favoured to be the ‘perfect’ running mate to Kwankwaso, was meant to give the former Anambra State Governor a ‘political advantage’ ahead of the 2023 elections.
According to the Kano NNPP Scribe, there are clear disparities between Kwankwaso’s political credentials and that of the LP presidential candidate.
He pointed out that Obi had not even launched his political career when Kwankwaso held sway as Governor of Kano, between 1999 and 2003, after Nigeria returned to democratic rule.
“It’s unfair to compare the political profiles of Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso with that of Peter Obi. Yes, there was a plan for the NNPP and LP to come together to form a merger.

“But Peter Obi refused to be a vice presidential candidate to Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Or, do you expect him (Kwankwaso) to be a vice presidential candidate to Peter Obi? It’s impossible, because Peter Obi and Kwankwaso are not politically on the same page.
“Madugu is far, far, far ahead of him. Who knows Peter Obi when Kwankwaso became the Governor of Kano State,” said Dr. Sadi Ali.
According to him, only the presidential candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and that of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Messrs Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alh. Atiku Abubakar, can ruffle feathers with Kwankwaso in the 2023 polls.
While explaining that their NNPP has a ‘national appeal, he disclosed that the party was founded in 1999 by an Igbo man, Dr Boniface Aniebonan, who now, is the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, Chairman.
On chances of the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the State, Engr. Kabir Abba Yusuf, emerging victorious in next year’s Kano governorship election, Dr. Sadi Ali, boasted that their NNPP gubernatorial flagbearer will defeat the incumbent Deputy Governor of the State, Alh Nasiru Gawuna, who is the governorship standard-bearer of APC.
When asked about the dismal outing of NNPP in the just-concluded Osun guber, where the party’s candidate, Razak Oyelami Saliu, scored a paltry 394 votes, Ali said that though the result was disappointing, measures will be put in place to boost the party’s performance in the 2023 governorship elections.
