Wike Favoured as Atiku meets with PDP govs over running mate
POLITICS DIGEST- The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has scheduled another round of talks with governors elected on the platform of the party, after the 20-member committee on Atiku’s running mate, overwhelmingly endorsed Wike during a 16 to 3 vote in favour of the Rivers state governor.
The meeting, which started 20 minutes ago, is designed to put finishing touches to plans to pick a running mate for Atiku.

A notice of the meeting put out by the Secretariat of the PDP Governors Forum, which was signed by the Director-General of the PDP GF, CID Maduagbanam, was sighted by Vanguard in Abuja.
Yesterday, Tuesday, the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyiochia Ayu, and members of the committee set up for the purpose met over the same matter.
According to a source, the committee had earlier come up with three names for consideration – Wike, Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State, before finally settling for Wike.
It was learnt that Atiku was not at the meeting, but would meet with the stakeholders as soon as possible. The ongoing meeting could be it.
At the meeting yesterday, Ayu had said the party would name Atiku’s running mate within 48 hours.
