By Comr Doji Doji
The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar sparked a light across the media houses on monday when he unveiled the most strategic vision for the country’s ministry of foreign affairs. As expected, Tuggar made a different and unique appearance that attracted the attention of Nigerians across the country and those abroad especially when he clearly pointed ‘Diaspora’ among the 4Ds he sets to reposition the ministry with.
Competence is the only commodity you cannot buy and that has strategically decorated him to steer the affairs of any task given to him and provide excellent results. During his sojourn at the parliamentary, the impactful projects and diverse interventions he brought to his people of Gamawa federal constituency are still testing the tick-tock of time. While serving as the Ambassador to Germany, he facilitated several projects and today Nigeria is benefiting a lot from his tireless efforts he extended to Germnay in business partnership and governance.
The new vision of the foreign ministry centers around four Ds: Development, Democracy, Demography, and Diaspora. These pillars serve as the guiding principles for the country’s foreign policy and international engagement. Each pillar addresses a crucial aspect of global affairs, reflecting the country’s commitment to fostering positive relationships, contributing to global progress, and ensuring the welfare of its citizens both at home and abroad.
Development stands as a cornerstone of the foreign ministry’s vision, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to promoting sustainable economic growth and improving living standards not only within its own borders but also across the globe.
The country aims to support development efforts in less nations by providing aid, grants, and investments that foster infrastructure development, poverty reduction, and economic diversification.
With this vision, Tuggar has already changed the perspective of world leaders on Nigeria, this time around the giant of Africa is awoke to her responsibilities by fostering robust trade relationships, the nation seeks to create a favorable economic environment that benefits all parties involved.
It emphasizes fair trade practices, reducing trade barriers, and enhancing market access for its products. With Tuggar, The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) will now get doses of commitments to put Nigeria at the forefront of its operations.

The foreign ministry places importance on sharing technical expertise, knowledge, and skills to help other countries enhance their capacity in various sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, education, and technology.
Tuggar understands the world politics being played in west Africa especially the current happenings in our neighboring countries. Therefore, incorporating democracy among the 4Ds means exercising leadership muscles to uphold democratic values and promoting accountable governance worldwide. This strategy reflects the belief that democracy is not only a domestic principle but also a global aspiration.
The minister also advocates for the protection of human rights, rule of law, and fundamental freedoms across the globe, his new vision for the ministry not only condemns human rights abuses and supports international mechanisms to hold perpetrators accountable but actively engages in monitoring and supporting free and fair elections in other nations, providing assistance to ensure transparent electoral processes and democratic transitions.
Tuggar’s new vision also points to empower civil society organizations, media, and independent institutions that play a vital role in promoting democratic governance and safeguarding citizens’ rights.
In line with the global agendas, demography highlights the significance of demographic trends and challenges in shaping international relations and global policies.
This ‘D’ recognizes the demographic shifts that influence economic, social, and political dynamics worldwide. Again, it addresses the implications of population growth and demographic imbalances by collaborating with international organizations and countries to develop strategies for managing these challenges. It will also recognize the potential of youth as agents of change.
The visibility of challenges Nigerians face in diaspora speak high volume of concerns, this vision will work to maintain strong ties with the diaspora, offering support, services, and opportunities that foster a sense of belonging and encourage diaspora involvement in the nation’s development.
The foreign ministry’s new vision of Development, Democracy, Demography, and Diaspora reflects a holistic and forward-thinking approach to international relations.
By addressing key Nigeria’s challenges and opportunities through these Ds, the nation strives to create a more prosperous, just, and interconnected world while safeguarding its citizens’ interests and promoting its core values on the global stage.
I have never doubt the political will and sagacity of Tuggar, with this development, Nigeria is set to scale through the turbulent forces the world nations are facing.
Congratulations Sir.
