Zulum Approves Minimum Wage Salary for 5,439 Borno Teachers
POLITICS DIGEST – Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the payment of the N30,000 minimum wage as salary to about 5,439 teachers of the Borno State local education authority (LEA), who passed a recent competency test.
A statement released by Zulum’s social media team disclosed this on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the verification committee assessed 17,229 LEA staff in the 27 Local Government Areas out of which 11,790 representing 69 percent found unqualified.
“Among them, 2389 teachers had no academic qualification whatsoever, not even secondary school certificates while 3,815 are untrainable”.
Recalled that Zulum, in October 2021, lamented the underpayment of Borno primary school teachers, however saying he couldn’t implement the minimum wage.
“I know that some teachers are receiving scandalous salaries that were less than N10,000, but we can’t pay the minimum wage until we address the problem of ghost workers at the LEA levels just as we did at the state level,” he said, then.
