The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved ₦631.3 billion for nine road infrastructure projects across the country as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve connectivity, stimulate economic growth and strengthen national integration.
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, following the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Among the projects approved are the 81.1-kilometre Ado–Ilawe–Ilumaba–Ikole Road in Ekiti State, the 95-kilometre Etuke–Okene–Ankpa–Otopa Road in Kogi State, and the Bichi Ring Road in Kano State.
The Council also approved road projects in Adamawa and Taraba states, remedial works on the East-West Road, and the rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Illela Road.

He noted that efficient road networks were vital to agricultural development, industrial expansion and employment generation, as they enable farmers to transport produce more easily and businesses to distribute goods at lower costs.
Umahi added that strategic investments in road infrastructure would also strengthen supply chains, support food security, attract private-sector investment and improve livelihoods in affected communities.
Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway Nears Completion
The minister also announced significant progress on the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, disclosing that the first 118-kilometre section had been completed, while work on the remaining portion was nearing completion.
He said the completed sections, featuring asphalt and concrete pavements, had been fitted with solar-powered streetlights to improve nighttime visibility and road safety.
The highway is a major transportation corridor linking the Federal Capital Territory with commercial and population centres in Northern Nigeria, supporting passenger movement, haulage and regional economic activities.
Umahi said the project’s progress reflected the administration’s continued focus on infrastructure delivery, road quality and improved connectivity along major national routes.
The Federal Ministry of Works reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring effective project implementation, quality assurance, transparency and value for money in the execution of approved projects.
It added that sustained investment in road infrastructure remained central to the Federal Government’s efforts to promote economic productivity, national cohesion and shared prosperity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
