NYSC Launches E-Training Portal for Staff
The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, has inaugurated the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Staff E-Training Portal as part of efforts to build a more efficient, knowledgeable and technology-driven workforce.
Olawande launched the portal during the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Orientation Workshop held in Abuja, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the NYSC and improving its operations.
The Minister commended the NYSC leadership for introducing innovations aimed at enhancing efficiency and professionalism among staff, describing the increased use of technology within the Scheme as encouraging.
He said the new platform would expand access to knowledge and professional development for NYSC personnel while strengthening their capacity to deliver effectively.
“This platform would also help to build more efficient, knowledgeable and responsive workforce. We are committed towards making the Scheme get better; let us work together and embrace technology,” Olawande said.
The Minister also emphasised the need for NYSC to equip Corps Members with practical skills beyond academic qualifications, noting that educational certificates alone could no longer address the challenges of unemployment.
He identified leadership, entrepreneurship, critical thinking and problem-solving as essential skills Corps Members should acquire during their service year.
According to him, Corps Members must also understand the importance of discipline, integrity and personal responsibility while being encouraged to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Olawande reiterated that the NYSC service year should provide graduates with opportunities to serve, lead and contribute to the development of the country.

He further described the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as the most important content of the NYSC at present.
Speaking at the workshop, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, said changing societal realities had made it necessary for the Scheme to continuously review its Orientation Course content to ensure greater relevance.
Nafiu said the theme of the workshop, “Reimagining the NYSC Orientation Course: Building Resilient, Responsible and Service-Oriented Corps Members for a Changing World,” was designed to address the character, mindset, skills and civic awareness of Corps Members.
He stressed that the success of the Orientation Course depended largely on effective collaboration among stakeholders, particularly in ensuring the security and welfare of Corps Members across the country.
“I encourage everyone to keep building the partnership and trust needed for the security and welfare of Corps Members wherever they are posted across the country,” he said.
The NYSC DG also assured that the management remained committed to working with security agencies to assess risks, take pre-emptive measures and safeguard Corps Members throughout their service year.
Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Nura Umar, commended the Minister for his commitment to youth development.
Umar described the Orientation Camp as the first point of contact for Corps Members as they begin their service year, stressing the importance of using the period to shape their character, values and understanding of national responsibility.
He called for the modernisation of the content, methodology and delivery of the Orientation Exercise to ensure that it remains aligned with contemporary realities.
He urged participants at the workshop to develop strategies for strengthening stakeholder relationships, improving the welfare and safety of Corps Members, enhancing camp administration and discipline, promoting leadership development and deepening the impact of the SAED programme.
