Bye-Elections: APC Wins 4 Seats, APM Takes One as INEC Announce Results
Candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have won four of the five by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) secured one seat in Bauchi.
The elections, held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, comprised one federal constituency and four state constituency contests. INEC’s results portal lists the five polls as the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency election, Dawakin Kudu in Kano, Disina and Sakwa in Bauchi, and Udu in Delta.
In Gombe, APC candidate Kallamu MaiJama’a was declared winner of the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election after polling 41,121 votes. The Labour Party (LP) scored 3,553 votes, while the APM secured 872 votes.
In Kano, the APC candidate, Husseini Datti, won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency by-election with 22,890 votes, according to the result announced by INEC Returning Officer Ibrahim Suraj.
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) polled 270 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded 108 votes. The Action Democratic Party (ADP), Allied Peoples Party (APP) and LP scored 89, 53 and 39 votes respectively.
In Delta State, APC candidate Okolosi Ator was declared winner of the Udu State Constituency by-election with 8,724 votes, while the PDP polled 214 votes.

The APC also secured the Disina State Constituency seat in Bauchi, where its candidate, Yakubu Ali, polled 5,846 votes to defeat the APM candidate, who scored 5,225 votes. The PRP came third with 3,701 votes.
The APM, however, upset the APC in the Sakwa State Constituency of Zaki Local Government Area, with its candidate, Adamu Yakubu, securing 8,515 votes.
The APC polled 3,771 votes in the constituency, followed by the PDP with 2,076 votes and the PRP with 727 votes.
The results gave the APC four of the five seats contested across the four states, while the APM secured the remaining seat in Bauchi.
The elections were generally reported to have been peaceful across the affected states, although there were concerns over low voter turnout in parts of Gombe and Kano and technical challenges involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in Delta.
In Bauchi, however, the state Police Command said it arrested 47 suspects during the Disina State Constituency by-election in Shira Local Government Area.
The suspects were allegedly posing as members of a state-owned security outfit and were reportedly found with guns, cutlasses and sticks. Police said the arrests were made at polling units during the election.
INEC’s current results portal shows that results from virtually all polling units had been uploaded as of September 20, although a small number remained outstanding in some constituencies.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, had indicated that the by-elections would provide operational lessons for the commission as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
