Three Months in Office: Gumel Pursues Partnerships, 2,000-Hectare Agricultural Project in Jigawa
POLITICS DIGEST — Three months after his appointment as Special Adviser on Intergovernmental Affairs to Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Engr. Mubarak Aliyu Gumel has highlighted efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships, explore economic opportunities and advance a proposed 2,000-hectare agricultural initiative.
In an activity update issued by his office, Gumel said engagements with relevant institutions, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), formed part of efforts to attract development opportunities to the state.
The update also highlighted renewed follow-up on a request that had remained pending for several months, alongside a commitment to keep the public informed about the activities and progress of the office.
On agriculture, the office disclosed that NIRSAL had accepted a proposal for a 2,000-hectare initiative in Jigawa for consideration, although further assessments and approvals would be required before implementation.
The proposed project, if successfully developed, could expand agricultural production, create employment and support economic activities in participating communities.
Gumel’s office also said it had engaged the CBN to explore areas of institutional cooperation that could align with Jigawa State’s development priorities.
The engagements are intended to establish communication channels, identify relevant opportunities and determine the requirements for possible collaboration. Any resulting initiative, however, would depend on applicable institutional procedures, eligibility conditions and approvals.
Another area of focus has been engagement concerning the Task Agency, as part of efforts to strengthen institutional relationships and explore potential areas of cooperation.

The office said it would sustain the necessary discussions and follow-up to advance opportunities relevant to the state.
On a previously pending request, the update stated that renewed engagement had brought the matter back under consideration, underscoring the importance of persistent follow-up in intergovernmental relations.
However, the eventual outcome remains dependent on the response of the relevant institution and any additional requirements.
Gumel’s office said the activities reflected its commitment to transparency and regular public communication, adding that citizens would be updated as substantive developments emerged.
The update also stressed the need to distinguish between proposals submitted, initiatives accepted for consideration, projects approved for financing and those that have commenced implementation.
It noted that the success of the engagements would ultimately depend on their ability to produce measurable benefits for Jigawa State and its residents.
Gumel’s commitment to public accountability, according to the statement, predates his appointment. During his aspiration to represent Gumel Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, he had pledged to keep constituents informed about his activities and efforts to address community concerns.
Although the ambition did not materialise, the office said he remained committed to the principle that accountability should extend beyond electoral politics.
As Special Adviser on Intergovernmental Affairs, Gumel is expected to facilitate institutional engagement and pursue opportunities that complement the development agenda of Governor Namadi’s administration.
His office said it would continue to follow up on ongoing proposals, strengthen partnerships and provide accurate updates on their progress.
The next phase of the engagements will depend on the outcome of institutional discussions, the fulfilment of outstanding requirements and the extent to which the proposals advance towards implementation.
