Tinubu Will Take Nigeria to Promised Land — Tolu Bankole
POLITICS DIGEST — A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aare Tolu Bankole, has expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will lead Nigeria to what he described as the “promised land” if the administration’s ongoing reforms are sustained.
Bankole, in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, welcomed President Tinubu back to Nigeria following his working vacation abroad and congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
He said the anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the resilience, enterprise and unity of Nigerians, while acknowledging the sacrifices and collective responsibility required to build the nation.
According to him, the President’s return should provide an opportunity for the administration to intensify implementation of its economic policies and ensure that recent improvements in key economic indicators translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
“Reforms are never easy, and like the President said, Nigeria is now on a steady trajectory,” Bankole said.
He cited the 3.89 per cent real Gross Domestic Product growth recorded in the first quarter of 2026, compared with 3.13 per cent in the corresponding quarter of 2025, as well as 3.29 per cent year-on-year growth in manufacturing.
He also noted the reduction of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Rate to 23 per cent at its September 21–22 meeting, alongside the reported inflation rate of 15.39 per cent.
Bankole said the figures indicated improving economic stability, adding that the government’s foreign exchange reforms, including market unification, clearance of verified backlogs and measures aimed at improving transparency, had also strengthened the country’s external reserves.

He further identified the Petroleum Industry Act, Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and banking recapitalisation programme as key measures capable of supporting government revenue, investment and economic resilience.
“If we stay the course and implement these reforms faithfully, the benefits will be more stability for businesses, more confidence for investors, more jobs, better access to credit, and more resources for government to fund infrastructure and social programmes,” he said.
The APC chieftain acknowledged that the impact of economic reforms would not be immediate, stressing that transformation required “time, discipline and consistency” before the foundations laid by reforms could translate into broad-based prosperity.
Bankole consequently urged Nigerians to support the APC-led government in the forthcoming general elections, arguing that continuity would allow the administration to consolidate its economic policies.
“The goal is simple: the sacrifices of today must lead to real, measurable prosperity for every household tomorrow,” he said.
He said Nigeria was at a defining moment, adding that sustaining sound policies, strengthening institutions and investing productively would determine whether the current reforms would result in lasting prosperity.
Bankole said he believed in a Nigeria where wealth would create shared prosperity, businesses would thrive and young Nigerians would have opportunities to build their future in the country.
“President Tinubu has returned to more work, not less. The task ahead is to build on what is working, fix what needs fixing, and make sure growth reaches everyone,” he said.
“We can and will get to that promised land if we support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is focused, disciplined and committed to the dignity and prosperity of every Nigerian.”
He also called for continued patriotism and collective responsibility as Nigerians marked 66 years of independence.
