2027: Why Wike is Supporting Only Tinubu, Not APC – Oshiomhole
POLITICS DIGEST – Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has clarified that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is supporting President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid rather than the All Progressives Congress.
Oshiomhole made the clarification during an interview on TVC on Tuesday, amid growing political differences between Wike and some APC governors.
The disagreement followed Wike’s criticism of some APC governors, whom he described as “politically lazy”, amid wider tensions over his involvement in the cross-party Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Oshiomhole noted that Wike is not a member of the APC but has repeatedly declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election.
“Wike is supporting President Tinubu and not the APC. The position of some of the APC governors and that of the minister is that they are both unanimous. They are all committed to supporting the re-election of President Tinubu,” Oshiomhole said.

He said he was not concerned by the differences between Wike and the APC governors because, in his assessment, both sides shared the same position regarding Tinubu’s presidential bid.
“I am comfortable with the fact that the two sides are working for the same goal, supporting the President,” he said.
Oshiomhole added that he had not heard either Wike or the APC governors oppose Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
“I have not heard any side of the argument suggesting that anyone, including the FCT Minister, is opposed to President Tinubu’s re-election,” he said.
The senator further recalled that Wike had repeatedly stated that he was not an APC member despite supporting the President.
“He has said so himself repeatedly that he is not an APC person; he is not a member of the APC, but he supports the President,” Oshiomhole said.
Wike himself has previously drawn a distinction between his support for Tinubu’s re-election and support for the APC as a political party. In a statement issued on September 15, the FCT minister said his backing was specifically for Tinubu’s presidential bid, while the Peoples Democratic Party remained free to field candidates in governorship and legislative elections.
The clarification comes as the political positions of Wike and several APC governors continue to generate debate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
