Adeleke Suspends NURTW Activities In Osun Motor Parks
Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state.
A statement on Thursday by Kolapo Alimi, commissioner for information and public enlightenment, said the directive was issued after a meeting of the Osun state security council, chaired by the governor.
Alimi said the decision followed deliberations on the security situation in the state, adding that the governor has directed the police to stop collection of levies by the union across all motor parks in the state.
The governor also ordered security agencies to arrest anyone parading themselves as officials or executives of the union in any motor park.

“I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I’m not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union in our parks. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace,” Adeleke was quoted as saying.
The governor ordered the immediate establishment of a rapid response squad comprising all security agencies in the state to enforce compliance with the order.
The statement added that security commanders at the meeting assured the governor of strict compliance with the directive.
Those in attendance at the meeting include representatives of the police, Department of State Services (DSS), army, air force, navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Others are Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), as well as top state government officials.
