Tinubu: Umahi Among My Most Outstanding, Hardworking Ministers

By Nafisat Bello

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, as one of the most outstanding and hardworking members of his cabinet, commending his commitment to delivering durable road infrastructure across the country.

The President made the remarks on Saturday in a goodwill message celebrating Umahi on his birthday, praising the former Ebonyi State governor for his dedication, patriotism and hands-on approach to supervising road construction projects nationwide.

Tinubu said the minister has distinguished himself through his passion for the job and his determination to ensure that road and bridge projects meet the highest standards of quality and durability.

According to the President, Umahi has demonstrated uncommon commitment by personally inspecting construction sites across the country rather than relying solely on reports from officials.

“Engineer Umahi has been one of my outstanding, hardworking ministers—passionate about the job and delivering durable roads and bridges that will last for about a century,” Tinubu said.

He added, “As a minister, he does not just sit in his office or rely on reports from subordinates; he is constantly on the road, personally monitoring construction work nationwide to ensure compliance with specifications and approvals.”

The President also acknowledged Umahi’s record of public service before joining the Federal Executive Council, noting that he represented Ebonyi South Senatorial District in the Senate after completing two successful terms as Governor of Ebonyi State between 2015 and 2023.

Tinubu recalled that Umahi’s administration in Ebonyi was widely recognised for its landmark infrastructure projects, a legacy he said the minister has continued to build upon at the national level.

He urged the Minister of Works to sustain the momentum by accelerating the construction, rehabilitation and completion of critical road projects in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to improve the quality of life of Nigerians while stimulating economic growth through better infrastructure.

The President further celebrated the minister and his family on the occasion of his birthday, praying for good health, greater strength and continued success as he serves the nation.

The congratulatory message was conveyed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
